Judge Robert "Bobby" Balderas was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Juan Balderas and Guadalupe Balderas. He is the third eldest of seven children. While growing up in Corpus Christi, he graduated from Moody High School in 1974 where he met his high school sweetheart Mary Balderas. They have been married for 32 years and have 4 children, Robert Jr., Melissa, Rene and Randy, and three grand children.

Following high school he gained employment at the Nueces County Courthouse as an elevator operator where he worked his way up eventually joining the Nueces County Sheriff's Office (NCSO). While there, he worked under five different Sheriff's administrations, and attended the Police Academy in 1976 at Del Mar College. From 1975-2002, he was employed with the NCSO, where he started as corrections officer and was promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant of NCSO. During his 28 years of service, he received his instructor's certificate and advanced certificate through T.C.L.E.O.S.E.

In 2003, Judge Balderas was elected to office as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 Place 3. While in office he was appointed Presiding Judge for the term of 2005-2007. Since taking office he has been involved in various organizations. One that he is very proud of, wheich he is also co-founder with LULAC Council Number 1 is the Toy Bowl. The Toy Bowl is an event that helps to raise money for under privileged kids and other non-profit organizations. Judge Balderas is also a Board Member for Nueces County Bail Bonds Committee and the Corpus Christi Neighborhood Center. The Judge is an active member of LULAC Council Number 1, Justice of the Peace and Constables Association (JPCA), the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Northwest Pony League, the Universal Little League, and other various organizations.

Judge Balderas has many values and ideals; one of which he treasures most is the value of education. He believes that a good educational foundation allows anyone to achieve his or her goals and dreams, which is a true reflection of how he runds his court. For this reason, he promotes parent and child interaction through programs and organizations throughout the community.
